Blackwell at Glensanda - Finning News

You can only get to the Aggregate Industries Glensanda Granite Super Quarry by taking a 45 minute boat trip from the site’s special jetty, situated about 25 minutes north of Oban, on the West Coast of Scotland.

It’s a journey that specialist earthworks contractor CA Blackwell and Finning engineers, amongst others take on a regular basis. These individuals ensure the quarry produces upwards of seven million tonnes of the very highest quality granite, which is then carried by ships to locations in the UK and Europe. For AI, being able to ship product from the site in vessels capable of handling up to 97,000 tonnes, has its clear advantages, but being in such a remote location on the Scottish peninsular, with no road access, also presents its challenges. This is particularly the case when it comes to the eight Cat 777G Off Highway Trucks and two Cat 992K Wheel Loaders, operated by Blackwell that have been acting as the primary movers for the site over the last two years.......

"Glensanda is certainly one of the most challenging quarry operations in the UK and this is why we continue to look at how innovation, new work practices and a partnership approach can help us deliver the productivity and performance Aggregate Industries need from the quarry, now and into the future."
