Who would you most like to shoot with a paintball gun?

Career politicians. Sadly the current parliament has rather a lot so I’ll need a good stash of bullets! It frustrates me that so many of the policy-makers in this country have so little experience of the real world of employment and commerce.

You’re God for the day. What’s the first thing you do?

I’d probably start with my head in my hands as there is so much to do, but after a moment’s contemplation I’d gather around me the best minds and practical hands I could find and together we’d have a greater chance of making some worthwhile changes.

Who is your hero?

Ian Botham. I love cricket and admired his ability to completely turn around the course of a game. A genuine all-rounder, he had the ability to make a big impact on his team’s fortunes.

What has been your worst business decision?

There have been a few and the one thing they all have in common is that I’ve tried to take on too much myself.

And best?

Realising that I shouldn’t try to do everything. As my role at Geofirma has expanded I’ve learned to get to know what skills people around me have, to trust them with specific projects and leave them to get on with it. It’s called delegation but it took me a while to get the hang of it.
